     Greetings,

While we are still getting organized, I've sent the following message
to the Let's Go and Lonely Planet guidebooks, which both list Rio
Palenque (on of the last remaining patches of tropical wet forest in
western Ecuador, with perhaps the highest recorded concentration of
plant diversity on the planet) with an old phone number for the botanist C. Dodson. Please pass on this information, and contact me
for further information if you're travelling to Ecuador in the next
     few months.

The Wong Foundation has recently taken over the management of the Rio
Palenque Field Station in western Ecuador, which is listed in your
guides. So far, we have done some basic maintenance to the lodge and
trails, and are working on more ambitious plans.

Dr. Calaway Dodson continues as a consultant, but only part time. For
now interested visitors can contact me at this e-mail or by telephone in
     Guayaquil at 593-4-208670 or 208680.

When are the deadlines for the next editions of your Ecuador and South
     America Guides?

     Dan Lipson,
     Director
     Fundacion Wong
