The Wong Foundation is re-developing ecotourism at the Rio Palenque
Field Station (Centro Cientifico Rio Palenque), known for its high
biodiversity.
See references in Lonely Planet's Ecuador and Galapagos, and I just
found a good review in A Guide to Bird-watching in Ecuador...
(Biosphere, UK, 1997, ISBN 0952003422), among others.
We're taking care of the forest, just about the last of its kind (very
wet tropical) in western Ecuador, maintaining the existing lodge and
trails, etc., starting a nursery for reforestation, and studying what
other tourist services we need to provide (need to identify our target
market, etc.)
The Wong Foundation is dedicated to rural education in the same
specific geografic area (Quevedo - Santo Domingo), and our benefactors
decided last year to purchase and preserve this endangered forest as
well. The area is one of the most productive agricultural areas in
the country, but contains few tourist destinations. I would be happy
to privide you with more details of this site and the area, but you'll
have to talk me into writing a whole chapter.

Hi all,
we are writing a book about ecotourism in different countries all over the
world. If you are interested in contributing a chapter about a project or
policy in your country, please send me an e-mail for further details:
Cheers
